Blog #3: Declaration of Independence.
1. List the democratic principles discussed in the opening.
Many democratic principles are discussed during the opening of the declaration of independence. One of these includes the idea that "all men are created equal", and are granted with, "unalienable rights", including rights to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The declaration also continues in emphasizing that the government is run by the citizens, and not by one person, like in a monarchy. It is also included that citizens have the right to overthrow the government if they feel the government is ignoring the majorities' requests.
2. List 5 grievances the colonists were making the King aware of.
One of the actions taken by the declaration of independence was the listing of grievances of the American public. American concerns included the ignoring or salutary neglect policy that the British had to American colonies. Other grievances include how the British didn't establish a judicial system, how the British must approve laws that are passed by colonists, how they are subject to high taxes without an equal say in the government, how the colonies were subject to laws such as the Acts of Navigation which limited trade partners, and how British troops were stationed in the colonies.
The final paragraph is basically the Americans reminding the British how the Americans originally attempted to reach out to the British in polite was, and how the Americans had warned the British of how poorly they administrated the colonies, and how American originally came to escape oppression. It also cuts off political connection from the colonies to the British.
