LAD/Blog #7: Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality
Washington went out and said that there was a war brewing in Europe between many countries, including Austria, Sardinia, Prussia, Great Britain, and the Netherlands on one side, and then France on the other side. Then he proceeds to state that the US has nothing to do with this, and should keep out of the war. He even goes out and says that any citizens non compliant with this request won't be protected by the US government.
This picture show the US becoming a world power, and starting to have a larger global influence following the World Wars. Modern America is very different compared to the ideals that are common today, with war mongering and questionable alliances. George Washington would be rolling in his grave if he found about the wars in Vietnam, Iraq, and our troops in Afghanistan, our occupation of west Germany, and Japan following WW2, and our alliances with governments like the ones in Saudi Arabia.
