LAD/Blog #8: Washington's Farewell Address

Washington's Farewell Address was the solemn conclusion of the first presidents 8 years of presidency, a term length only topped by FDR, a president that saved America from financial ruin, and made US the superpower it is today through his role in the creation of the Atomic bomb. In this address he warns Americans from pitfalls he fears the US could succumb to. 3 of them include:

Washington fears that factions could misrepresent passions or opinons of the people, and that he hopes that even though political divides are inevitable, they can be manifested through political parties which can recognize differences and still come together for the best of the country.

2. Foreign Influences. George Washington found these influences to be the enemy of the republican government. He advises that the US expand commercial relation (trade) but cut off political connections with theses foreign nations. By doing this he also effectively warns the US from having foreign alliances also.

3. Morality and Religion. George Washington emphasizes how morality and religion provide a backbone for a functioning society, and as such also necessary for political prosperity.
